MRAC Soror Beverly E. Smith elected National Secretary
at 49th National Convention in Orlando, Florida
Soror Beverly E. Smith, the newly elected National Secretary for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is not only an accomplished and dynamic soror but is also one of our very own. Initiated at Epsilon Omicron Chapter at Bowling Green University in Ohio in 1967, Soror Smith has been a member of Delta for over 40 years. Since 1988 she has been an active member of Marietta-Roswell Alumnae Chapter (MRAC), where she has served as Leader of the Minerva Circle and Collegiate Advisor. Within the Southern Region, Soror Smith currently serves as the Coordinator for Chapter and Member Development and was the Coordinator for Chapter Management and Conflict Resolution from 2003 to 2007.
On the national front, Soror Smith has also held numerous positions in Delta. From 1994 to 1996, she was a member of the Ritual and Ceremonies Commission; and from 1998 to 1990, she served as the sorority’s Executive Director. During her term as a member of Delta’s National Executive Board from 2000 to 2004; Soror Smith served as Convention Coordinator for the 46th National Convention held in Atlanta in 2002. Under her successful leadership, the 2002 Convention was one of the largest and most profitable in Delta’s history. During her term on the National Executive Board, Soror Smith also chaired the Long Range Planning Task Force, whose primary mission was to make recommendations for Delta’s strategic plan and future initiatives.
Not only is she an exceptional member of Delta, but Soror Beverly Smith has also been an exemplary public servant. Currently, she chairs the Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration and is a member of Cobb Executive Women, Counsel for Resource Development (CRD), as well as past board member and committee chair for Girls Inc. of Cobb County and the Cobb County United Way Advisory Board.
Due to her outstanding leadership and dedication to her community, Soror Smith has earned numerous accolades and international recognition for her accomplishments. In 1995, she was recognized by the YWCA as a “Woman of Achievement” and was named a “History Maker” by TheHistoryMakers.com, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving African American history. In addition to these accomplishments, Soror Smith has been listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the South, Who’s Who among Black Americans, and American Biographical Institute’s 2000 Most Notable Women.
Soror Smith is currently employed as the Executive Director of Stewardship and Development for the Technical College System of Georgia. Along with her husband, Stephan Smith, she is principle and co-owner of the HR Group, Inc., a full-service consulting firm. As a noted motivational speaker with a personal motto of “service with purpose,” Soror Beverly E. Smith is a leader, trailblazer, and the embodiment of dedication to one’s community.
